Place Your Asset Tags Properly

There are as many places to attach an Asset Tag as there are types of assets. Asset tags need to be inconspicuous – but not inconvenient. They need a low profile. Asset labels and asset tags should not be in a position that invites picking and benevolent vandals. But, they cannot be so well hidden that you need a roadmap to find them. Popular spots for asset labels are locations near the OEM's nameplate, the inside of a case, at the edge of a desk. Locate asset tags or labels away from areas subject to frequent wear, such as near a keypad or handle.

Tricks to Ensure Asset Tags Last a Lifetime

• Find a flat, dry surface.

• Clean the surface. Use Surface Prep or a non-alcohol solvent cleaner. Make sure to dry the surface.

• When removing the liner to expose the asset label or tag adhesive, avoid putting your fingers on the adhesive. A fingerprint may reduce the adhesive capabilities of the asset label by as much as 40%.

• Press down on the label to ensure that the adhesive bonds fully with the application surface. Most labels must be applied at temperatures of 40 degrees Fahrenheit or greater.

• Wait for the adhesive to cure. The adhesive peel and shear strengths will increase over the next 1-2 days.
